TMCC Match 2 Preview: Lao Toyota FC
Lao Toyota FC travel to Yangon’s Thuwunna Youth Training Centre Stadium on Sunday needing nothing less than a win against 2015 Myanmar National League champions Yangon United, if they hope to progress to the semi-final stage of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015.
The 2015 Lao Premier League Champions were put to the sword by Boeung Ket Angkor FC’s Chan Vathanaka in the TMCC opener earlier this month, as the young Cambodian striker bagged a brace in a 2-0 win for the visitors in Vientiane’s Anouvong Stadium on November 1st.
Lao Toyota FC’s English coach David Booth rued his side’s inability to trouble the Cambodian defense and will not want a repeat in Sunday’s vital second fixture. Speaking after the loss to Prak Sovannara’s men, the 67-year old had put the defeat down to poor finishing: “We had chances in the game.” he said: “but we squandered them. I’m sure if we would have scored, we would have won the game. Now we have to get a result in Yangon.”
Booth’s job will be made all the more difficult as their Sunday opponents are sure to pinpoint the threat of star strike duo Kazuo Homma and Sitthideth Khantavong. The pair were sufficiently shackled by the Boeung Ket Angkor FC defense in game one and left fighting for scraps and half-chances in what was a strong and efficient defensive performance by the Cambodians. The Japanese journeyman was the top-scorer in the LPL this season with 29 goals, while Khantavong is heralded by many as being one of Laos’ leading young talents.
Nonetheless, Homma made it clear he has no fear of his opponents: “I know Yangon United FC are champions in the Myanmar National League this season, but I am always playing each game like it’s my last. I will play my best and hope to give Lao fans something to cheer during the Championships.” he said.
Lao Toyota FC will pit themselves against Yangon United FC for the second game of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015 at 4 pm on Sunday, November 22. The match will be played at the 32,000 capacity Thuwunna Youth Training Centre Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
