SHB Da Nang FC & Yadanarbon FC to battle it out in the Toyota Mekong Club Championship.
Tomorrow’s Toyota Mekong Club Championship clash between SHB Da Nang FC, part of Vietnam’s V.League 1 and Yadanarbon FC, hailing from Myanmar, is a match that is sure to feature plenty of action, as both teams target a spot in the semi-final.
SHB Da Nang FC Head Coach Le Huynh Duc and Captain Nguyen Vu Phong joined the pre-match press conference held at the Crowne Plaza West Hanoi with Head Coach René Desaeyere and Captain Biassi Nyakwe William participating for Yadanarbon.
Le Huynh Duc, the head coach of SHB Da Nang FC, was clearly disappointed with his team’s first round result. “It’s obviously a disappointment for us. However, we have prepared excellently for tomorrow’s match and we’re going to give it our all for the Vietnamese home crowd.”
“We have only two international players, whilst Yadanarbon FC has 6 Myanmar Internationals in their squad, as well as 4 players from overseas, so winning tomorrow’s match is a big task for us and undeniably challenging. In the last few days, we lost our talisman Huy Toan due to injury, which is a big loss for the squad, but we believe younger members of our squad will stand in and seize the opportunity to showcase what they are capable of on the big stage.”
SHB Da Nang Captain Nguyen Vu Phong has many fond memories of My Dinh stadium harking back to his tenure on the Vietnamese national team. The 31-year-old forward said, “Coming back to My Dinh stadium is always a special moment for a Vietnamese footballer. Its been several years since I last had the chance to play here and the atmosphere is always phenomenal. We are going to give 110% in this match to give the home crowd something to smile about.”
He hopes he can utilize this nostalgia to spur on his team to victory. “After our earlier loss, this is do or die for us, so we are going to come out guns blazing. To advance to the semi-final, we have to score. Goals are key for us.”
Meanwhile, Yadanarbon FC’s Manager respectfully noted SHB Da Nang FC’s qualities as a team and that, despite the calibre of his squad, he was expecting the home side to give them a really tough competition. “Even though we have 6 players selected in the national team, many players are still suffering fatigue in the aftermath of AFF Cup 2016. As the away side, this is not going to be easy at all.”
Asked about the conditions in Hanoi prior to the match, Desaeyere commented, “The weather in Hanoi is no issue, perfectly fine in my opinion. However, the squad is not fully used to the environment which adds another layer of challenge. Nonetheless, we are quite confident that we’ll get good results.”
The match will be held at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, on 23rd of December 2016. Kick-off will be at 18:00 local time.
