Lanexang United FC and Buriram United FC seeks to gain dominance in Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2016 Finals
During the press conference held at the Mercure Hotel, Lao PDR on January 3rd 2017, Brazilian Head Coach Leonardo Vitorino of Lanexang United FC and Serbian Head Coach Ranko Popovic of Buriram United FC were confident and affirmed their teams are ready to compete in the first leg of Toyota Mekong Club Championship Finals on January 4th 2017 at Chao Anouvong Stadium in Vientiane, Laos
“This is an honor to be playing in the finals versus Buriram United, which is a tough team from Thailand. They have experience playing in the AFC Champions League and have several outstanding foreign-players as well. But, we have won the Lao Premier League 2016 and we still have a desire to create more history by winning this tournament too. Thus, we will play our best to gain a good result”, said Vitorino.
“Lanexang United is the representing team of the Lao Premier League. Therefore, I would like to invite everyone and all related parties to support this team. Together, we can create history for Lao football. The majority of players on this team are born in Laos and have honed their skills in the Lao League. That’s why we need the support of all the Lao football fans to cheer for us and develop football in Laos together.”
Meanwhile, Coach Ranko Popovic of Buriram United said, “This match will be our first tournament in preparing for the upcoming Thai Premier League 2017. I would like to congratulate Lanexang United FC for advancing to this finals. Lanexang United is quite a tough team. They have an advantage by playing three matches in this tournament already. But we are here representing Thai football, the Thai Premier League, and the Thai fans. We will do our best to deliver a positive result.”
A reporter asked the Buriram coach if the long hiatus will have affect his team in any way, Coach Popovic said, “We did not play for several months but we will not use this as an excuse. We thoroughly studied and analyzed our opponents. Certainly, they have an experienced coach and know several of our players very well. As the representing club of Thailand, we will apply the tactics that we trained for.”
When asked about Lanexang United FC’s preparation for the match, Captain Soukaphone Vongchiengkham said “We trained extremely hard for this match because we are playing in Laos and in front of our fans. For this reason, the team is very focused and will play our best. This match will be very exciting! Buriram United FC is a very tough team. We will fight for our fans’ happiness and will do our best to represent Lao football.”
In his response to the same question, Captain Suchao Nutnum of Buriram United FC said, “previously we played a friendship match against the Lao Premier League’s all-stars and that was fun. But, this match will be completely different. Toyota Mekong Club Championships is the first tournament for Buriram United in 2017, which I am 100% ready for and will play as best as I can. This trophy will be the first one that Buriram United FC will want to win.”
