Homma Sets Sights on Boeung Ket in TMCC Curtain-Raiser
Lao Toyota FC will host Boeung Ket Angkor FC on Sunday evening in the first game of the 2015 Toyota Mekong Club Championship with Kazuo Homma, the Lao sides fearsome Japanese striker, in imperious form, yet uncertain of the threat posed by the Cambodian qualifiers.
“I have no idea about prediction on Sunday.” said the 35-year old Tokyo-native. “It will be the first time I will play against a Cambodian team.”
Nevertheless, Homma has caught wind of the goalscoring exploits of 21-year old Chan Vathanaka and is looking forward to facing the young Boeung Ket forward in the TMCC opener. “I have heard about Vathanaka.” He said. “He is a local and has scored many, many goals in their competition. So, I am interested in how he plays.”
Homma himself has been in prolific form since his arrival in Laos in 2014, an opportunity he seized with both hands, after a ten-year spell in Hungary. “I always try to accept what I have in front of me.” He said. “So in this case I got opportunity to play here.” He has since struck the back of the net with remarkable regularity finishing the season as top scorer in the LPL for the second consecutive season.
The athletic forward began his season hitting a sensational four goals past the helpless keeper in his sides opening day 5-1 win over SHB Vientiane. He also scored the championship winning goals in the club’s final league game of the season against Lao Police FC and was instrumental to the team’s success, forming a deadly partnership with young Laos prodigy Sitthideth Khantavong.
Goals from the duo were vital to wrestling the Lao Premier League title away from defending champions Hoang Anh Attapeu FC, helping the Vientiane-based side ward off the threat of challengers Lanexang United and capture their first league title since their establishment in 2013.
Lao Toyota FC will meet Boeung Ket Angkor FC for the opening game of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015 at 6 pm on Sunday, November 1 at Anouvong Stadium in Vientiane, Laos.
