The Toyota Mekong Club Championship is a football tournament among Mekong countries initiated by Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) in 2014 under the Toyota Mekong Football Project (MFP). The project is initiated by Toyota to show our support for the development of football in the Mekong countries.
Toyota’s aim is to go beyond delivering better cars and become the 'Best Partner' for each country. To this end, Toyota aims to enrich the lives of the communities in the Mekong region including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, by making football more accessible to the young and old, aspiring football players and fans of the sport.
In its first championship in 2014, the Toyota Mekong Club Championship comprised 4 clubs representing Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
The second edition of Toyota Mekong Club Championship in 2015 saw the involvement of five top clubs from the following countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. A total of five matches were played in each participating country between 1st November to 20th December 2015.
The Toyota Mekong Club Championship will go into its third year in 2016, with clubs from the five Mekong countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, starting from November.
